Fed up parents have demanded to know whether a flood-hit pre-school centre will open after the summer holidays, as the anniversary of its temporary closure approaches.
Youngsters were forced from the popular Crieff Road centre on July 21 when heavy storms battered Perth and swathes of the town were flooded.
Since then, the young pupils have been using surplus classrooms at Balhousie Primary School as they wait for the damage to be mended.
With what was hoped to be a short-term closure set to stretch beyond a year, parents are seeking answers.
One who contacted The Courier said, “The flooding was almost a year ago now but still there is no indication of when the kids might get back into Crieff Road.
“The staff do a great job in the temporary accommodation but it is not really a suitable solution in the long term. I appreciate that the flooding did a fair bit of damage but we all assumed it would be sorted out by now the early indications were that the children would be in by Christmas.
“Obviously, that deadline came and went and the latest we were told is that work is ‘ongoing’. However, there has not been anything concrete.”
She said the work should now be given “top priority” to get the children into more comfortable surroundings.
“It is very frustrating as Crieff Road has such a beautiful outdoor area that was one of the main things we liked when we first saw the centre.
“I really feel a project such as this should be given a top priority and it just feels as if that may not be the case.
“It would at least be nice to know whether or not it will be open after the summer holidays. If it is not, there better be a good explanation as to why not.”
A spokeswoman for Perth and Kinross Council could shed little light on the matter.
She said, “The council is continuing to progress refurbishment work on the Crieff Road Pre-School Centre, which was subject to storm damage last year.
“We will keep parents informed and updated as the refurbishment project develops.”
