M90 junction to be closed overnight for repairs

Part of the M90 will be closed overnight next week after a car hit a bridge at a major Perth junction.

Bear Scotland will undertake parapet repair works at the southbound slip road of the Craigend Interchange, which leads from the Broxden roundabout.

The works will involve the repair of the damaged bridge parapet, road signs as well as installation of additional LED road studs.

Bear Scotland said the work was necessary following a “vehicle strike” at the site.

The works will require an overnight closure of the M90 southbound slip road from Broxden with traffic being diverted north over the Friarton Bridge to junction 11 Barnhill Interchange.

The closure will be from 7.30pm on Thursday to Friday morning at 6.30.

Andy Thompson, Bear Scotland’s north east operating company representative, said: “Craigend Interchange is used by around 30,000 vehicles a day and the LED road studs will further enhance the safety of the road at this location.

“The night-time working has been planned to minimise the impact of delays and disruption on motorists.

“We encourage road users to plan their journey in advance and check the Traffic Scotland website before setting out.”

The works will be carried out by Bear Scotland and have been planned in consultation with Police Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council and Transport Scotland.

The repairs come just months after a £400,000 revamp of the Craigend Interchange came to an end.

The work included the resurfacing of the road, as well as the installation of LED studs and new signs.

The upgrade meant a series of road closures last autumn, which resulted in rush-hour misery for motorists as drivers sought to avoid the diversion.
