The Queen has attended a Scottish horse show rounding off a week in which she became Britain’s longest serving monarch.
The Queen arrived by Range Rover to the Longines FEI (Federation Equestre Internationale) European Eventing Championship at Blair Castle, Perthshire, with the Duke of Edinburgh.
Wearing a white floral hat, pearls and a grey-and-white houndstooth coat, The Queen greeted Brigadier Melville Stewart Jameson, Lord Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross, and representatives from Longnes and the FEI.
She took her seat with Prince Phillip, dressed in a green raincoat, and chatted with people in the grandstand before settling down to watch the show.
The Championships at Blair Castle is the final opportunity for European nations to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with 80 competitors from 16 nations taking part over four days of competition, in front of a crowd in excess of 60,000.
The event includes international three-day eventing, British Showjumping, Highland Pony showing, Hunter Show, National Pony Society Scotland Finals, Pony Club Games, Ex Racehorses and Ridden Clydesdale Championships.
The event also incorporates the Bruadar Country Fair, with traditional countryside pursuits such as falconry, gundog training, vaulting, dog agility and includes over 200 trade stands.
Germany’s Michael Jung was declared the Longines FEI European Eventing champion, with his eight-year-old horse Fischertakinou.
The Queen presented Mr Jung with his medal, and went on to present medals to the other individual and team medal winners.
The German team won gold, Great Britain won silver and France took bronze.
The Queen was in visibly good spirits, laughing as the 15 members of the medal-winning teams jostled for a place on the narrow gold winner’s podium for a group photo.
It is the first time the FEI European Championships has come to Scotland.
The Royal Family have a close association with equestrian competitions.
The Queen’s daughter Anne, Princess Royal, won gold in 1971 and two silver medals in 1975 at the championships, and her granddaughter Zara Tindall won silver at the London 2012 Olympics.
