A Perthshire pensioner has launched a £30,000 compensation action after she tripped on a doormat in her church and was injured.
Parishioner Margaret Graham (78) has launched the legal bid against the St Adamnan’s Episcopal Church in Kilmaveonaig, near Blair Atholl.
She says she caught her left foot on the doormat on September 8, 2007, as she was preparing flower arrangements for the Sunday service.
After throwing cuttings on to a compost heap, Mrs Graham was making her way back into the church through the front door when, she alleges, she tripped on the DIY piece of flooring.
During efforts to regain her balance, she said, her other foot became tangled up on the mat, causing her to fall forward and dislocate her shoulder.
She was taken by ambulance to Perth Royal Infirmary, where she was given morphine so her shoulder joint could be put back in place.
In a writ lodged at Perth Sheriff Court, it is alleged that, despite several sessions with a physiotherapist and an operation to repair tendon damage, Mrs Graham has been left “considerably disabled”.
As a result, she is claiming compensation from landowner Captain Andrew Gordon and the church.
They are fighting Mrs Graham’s claim, and say that her own “fault and negligence” made her injuries worse.
The case is due to be heard at Perth Sheriff Court on May 4.
