Musically-minded thieves have raided a Perth school.

A ukulele and a drum were stolen from a portable cabin at North Muirton Primary earlier this week.

School officials have secured the building and are appealing for help in catching those responsible.

Temporary Chief Inspector Ian Scott highlighted the incident in his weekly bulletin.

He said: “A theft by housebreaking was committed at North Muirton Primary School, a music portable cabin was broken into and a ukulele and drum were stolen.

“Local officers are making enquiry but don’t want to make a song and dance about it.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed they were looking into the incident.

She said: “Police Scotland is investigating a break-in to a school in Uist Place, Perth that happened sometime between 5.30pm on Monday, July 6 and 7.15am on Tuesday, July 7.

“A drum and a ukulele were stolen.

“Anyone with information that could assist officers with their enquiries is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. “

A spokeswoman for Perth and Kinross Council urged witnesses to come forward.

She said: “On Monday we reported to Police Scotland the theft of two musical instruments from a portable classroom at North Muirton Primary School.

“We have ensured that the school buildings are secure again following this break-in.

“We would ask anyone with any information about this theft to contact Police Scotland.”
