A senior charity manager has been removed from his post after a police investigation allegedly discovered a large sum of money had gone missing.
Stewart McFarlane, 42, had been working on the management team for the largest community charity in Perth and Kinross when a probe was launched into missing funds.
A large scale internal investigation was carried out by Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Service (PKAVS) into allegations funds had gone missing over a period of more than two years.
McFarlane, who has worked with the organisation for more than a decade, had been working as PKAVS carers services manager since April 2012.
A spokesman for PKAVS confirmed that McFarlane is no longer working for the charity and that the matter had been passed on to the police.
“We have reason to believe that the charity has been a victim of financial crime and have reported our concerns to the relevant authorities,” the spokesman said.
“We understand that the matter is now being considered by the procurator fiscal and therefore we are unable to comment further at this time.”
A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 42-year-old man has been charged in connection with embezzlement and fraud that happened between April 2012 and October 2014 at locations in Perth and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
McFarlane started working as a part-time support worker with PKAVS in 2003.
