Thousands of athletes are expected to flock to Perth this summer for the second annual jogscotland One Big Weekend.

Runners from more than 500 clubs across the country will take part in the festivities at the George Duncan Athletics Arena.

Described as a “one-of-a-kind” event, it takes place on August 2 from 6.30pm and gives members of the jogscotland community the rare opportunity to meet up in one place, as well as providing non-members with the chance to pull their trainers on and try something new.

Head of jogscotland Billy Mitchell said: “The jogscotland One Big Weekend is open to all levels of running ability.

“Just like our jog groups, the events are friendly and supportive. They’re a great chance to beat a personal best time, raise money for your favourite charity, or simply enjoy crossing the line with friends.

“After last year’s success, it’s fast becoming a permanent, exciting addition to the Scottish running calendar.”

At last year’s inaugural event, thousands of runners took part in the festival.

The first woman home was Judith Livingstone, from Methven, who finished in an impressive 22 minutes and 22 seconds, while Keir Miller was the overall winner, completing the 5km run in just 19 minutes and 29 seconds.

One Big Weekend Perth is just one of four events taking place across Scotland, with similar runs being held in Aberdeen at the Beach Esplanade on August 2 from 10.30am; in Glasgow at Bellahouston Park on August 3 from 10.30am; and on the same date at the Cramond/Silverknows Promenade in Edinburgh, starting at 6.30pm.

Although it is not competitive, prizes will be awarded to those who make it over the line first and who enjoy notable individual achievements.

Every runner will also receive a medal and goodie bag to mark the occasion. Entry costs £14.78 for jogscotland members and £16.78 for non-members.
