A dishonest orthopaedic surgeon who submitted another student’s work for his course at Dundee University has been suspended for four months.
Dr Gordon James Shepard admitted the allegations against him when he appeared before the General Medical Council’s Fitness to Practise Panel last week.
On Friday, the panel decided the misconduct warranted a suspension.
The misconduct took place between November 2009 and March 2010 while Dr Shepard was registered on a distance learning course to obtain a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at the Centre of Medical Education at Dundee University.
Dr Shepard submitted 12 coursework assignments as his own work.
In each of the assignments he plagiarised course work that had previously been submitted by another student actions found to be misleading and dishonest.
Dr Shepard is employed at the Royal Bolton Hospital in Lancashire.
