This year’s commemorations have been particularly poignant since it is 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War. It is also 70 years since the D-Day landings, while 2014 saw the withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan. The two-minute silence marks the anniversary of the World War One armistice.VIDEO: Dundee remembers the fallen during Armistice Day VIDEO: Armistice Day ceremony at Balhousie Castle memorial wallIn Edinburgh the silence was observed at the Field of Remembrance at Prince Street Gardens.
