Today’s letters to The Courier.
Sir, – I have read your report about the Naked Rambler and what his friend Bernard Boase thinks about him and his latest predicament.
I can honestly say I have never read such claptrap in all my life.
While I am not against nudity as such I think there is a time and place for it, e.g. in the privacy of one’s own home or with other like-minded people at a place set apart for that purpose.
For someone like Gough to parade around naked in public and in places where children are playing is totally offensive and indecent.
Why should we have to pay for his board and lodgings as we are doing now and have been doing the past few years?
The sheriff should give him a conditional discharge instead of sending him back to prison with the conditions being 1) someone from his family should come to collect him and take him back to his own midden where he can roam about where and how he pleases and 2) he is banned from returning to Scotland unless suitably dressed.

Windfarm gets neighbourly approval
Sir, – As can be seen from my address, I live close to the proposed Nathro Hill windfarm site.
I have met with Ian Lindsay and associates from Eurowind on more than one occasion and I have seen in detail their proposals and what effects it will have at this location.
I have been involved in part of the environmental studies as to the possible impact on local wildlife and habitat. I have also listened to the anti-windfarm lobby and have found them to be misinformed, misguided, and mis-educated. The majority are not even local people.
Yes, the windfarm will have a visual effect on the landscape but Lethnot is also the least frequented of the Angus glens by walkers and visitors alike so the impact on visitors to Angus will be minimalised.
The infrastructure from the A90 to the proposed site would not only improve access for construction but also for residents and visitors for years to come. (Part of the proposed route will actually pass my boundary).
So as a local resident who will be directly affected by this enterprise I would like to fully endorse Eurowind’s proposals for Nathro Hill windfarm.

Need to get it sorted quickly
Sir, – In response to other letters regarding parking in Perth, I would like to mention that my wife and I went to Arbroath last Saturday and parking was free all over town. It was very busy and there were no empty shops to let at all.
I would also mention that recently while visiting Perth Royal Infirmary on quite a few occasions recently we could not get parked in the lower park next to Jeanfield Road entrance as it was always full and it is free up to nine hours.
We mentioned this to several staff and were told that people who work in town park there in the morning then bus or walk to work.
They are as appalled as we are at this practice and indeed they have reported it to management but nothing gets done about it.
It seems to me that if Perth doesn’t get its parking sorted city centre trade will not improve any time soon.

Hip, hip hooray for “holiday”
Sir, – I have just returned from a five-day ”summer holiday” in the Perthshire hills. The address of my ”hotel” was the PRI (Perth Royal Infirmary).
The accommodation was comfortable and there were other pleasant ”guests” but it was not overcrowded. Everything was spotlessly clean and there was fresh bedding daily.
There was a superb menu from which to choose good food (though there was far too much!) served by charming ”waitresses”.
It had all the mod cons and help was available at the press of a button, day or night.
Thank you, doctors and nurses, for my new hip. It’s beginning to feel part of me.

They know best
Sir, – Laura Wilson (Letters, August 27) is to be commended for hitting every appropriate nail firmly on the head in relation to Perth and Kinross Council’s debate on the issues surrounding attracting customers to central Perth businesses and the impact of parking charges.
However, what she obviously fails to understand is that councillors and indeed all politicians know far more than we humble individuals do and that their self-anointed omniscience automatically dictates that they are correct.
