Don’t forget John Brown’s part in helping Dundee win the Championship

It was one of those days at Dens Park on Saturday.
It was one of those days at Dens Park on Saturday.

Considering everything that had gone before in an incredible Championship title race, it was unlikely that Saturday’s mission for Dundee would turn out to be a straightforward one.

Yes, if they beat Dumbarton they would be promoted and there was also the perceived “safety net” of knowing that a draw would almost certainly be enough with Hamilton’s goal difference being vastly inferior to that of the Dark Blues.

However, as Accies began running up their ridiculous cricket score against Morton, that net began looking increasingly frayed.

It was possibly just as well that the Dundee players did not know what was happening in the west in the second half but they deserve enormous credit for handling the incredible pressure to secure the win they needed.

This season has been an emotionally-draining rollercoaster for everyone connected with the club but thankfully it has finished on a huge high.

Paul Hartley can rightly be proud of securing his third promotion in succession and can look forward to managing in the Premiership.

Mention must, though, be made of his predecessor John Brown.

Bomber split opinion among the fans but it is worth remembering that 40 of Dundee’s 69 points this season were picked up under his stewardship.

However, instead of looking back, everyone at Dens will be relishing what lies ahead top-tier football again and the return of the derbies with a certain club just down the road.
