Dundee derby: Paul Hartley says his decisions are made

Dundee boss Paul Hartley says he decided on his team selection for Sunday’s Dundee derby as early as Monday.

Naturally, he wasn’t willing to share his preferred line-up with the assembled press and it will certainly be intriguing to see exactly who runs out in dark blue at Tannadice.

The manager may have made his mind up but there are plenty of question marks after the last two games which have seen Dundee taken apart by Rangers at Ibrox and then narrowly defeated at home by Hearts.

For instance, does Hartley persevere with Kosta Gadzhalov or recall Thomas Konrad to his defence? Did Cammy Kerr do enough against the Jambos to earn another start against United and if so where does he play?

Does Hartley resurrect his front three by recalling Rory Loy to cause havoc against a suspect Tangerines defence?

Perhaps the biggest decision of all regards skipper Gary Harkins.

He did not have the best of days against Rangers along with many of his team-mates but he was also largely ineffectual against Hearts and was subbed in the 78th minute. So does Hartley do what would have been unthinkable just a few weeks ago and drop his skipper?

Certainly, a potential replacement, Nicky Low, did his chances no harm by scoring two good goals for the Under-20s against Rangers this week or could Hartley even consider replacing Harkins with Craig Wighton?

So plenty of unanswered questions but one thing I am certain of is that no matter what team Hartley selects they will have to be at their Sunday best to beat a United side fighting for their Premiership survival.
