Queen’s Park 4 Montrose 1: On-loan Dundee United man stars for Spiders

Darren Miller puts Queens on the way to victory.
Darren Miller puts Queens on the way to victory.

The inconsistency that has dogged Montrose all season was on display again at Hampden as the side that defeated Annan just a week before suffered a heavy reverse.

Boss George Shields said: “Queen’s Park deserved their win based on their first half performance which was the best I have seen against us this season.”

On-loan Dundee United striker Jordan Moore was the creator as he broke free on the left and rolled the ball towards Darren Miller who blasted home for the home side’s first.

Moore was involved in the second goal 10 minutes later when he chipped a pass to Paul Woods who had time to take aim and slot home.

Montrose pulled a goal back with 14 minutes left in bizarre fashion when Queens defender David MacGregor cleared the ball and it struck Montrose substitute Ross Campbell before looping high over home goalkeeper Willie Muir and into the net.

Moore slotted home a penalty after he had been tripped by Marvin Andrews to make it three, and a fourth came when full-back Gavin Mitchell set up Moore to run through and lift the ball past McKenzie.
