Dundee FC in crisis: fans’ representative calls for boycott of away games

Dundee fans will be encouraged not to travel to away games as part of the protests against the heavy sanctions imposed on the club.

Dundee FC Supporters’ Society chairman Stuart Murphy slammed the penalties imposed on the Dark Blues and attacked the SFL for the way they have treated the club.

He said, “I am outraged. I think it is disproportionate and I am really unhappy with the severity of it. I just think it’s an absolute disgrace.

“If they were looking to make an example of someone they could have used other teams in the past. Twenty-five points is disproportionate and they have effectively relegated the club with the deduction, so why not relegate us straight out?”

He added, “I will now be actively advising supporters’ club members and other fans not to travel to away games but to put all their resources into Dens. We have taken over 1000 fans to away games in the past two weeks and other teams will now suffer because of this and it’s not fair.

“This is no reflection on our colleagues in the league that we have to do this, but we have to put all our resources into Dundee.”

Mr Murphy added, “The reaction from fans in particular has been fantastic but this is a hammer blow to them. By the time we play Partick Thistle on Saturday I’m confident we will have passed the £100,000 barrier of fund-raising from fans alone.

“For me, the question is how much can one set of supporters take?”
