Dundee United turn to eBay in bid to fill club coffers

Dundee United have kicked off an eBay store to raise extra cash from their fans.

Match balls, signed shirts and calendars are some of the memorabilia available online.

The club say the move allows fans to own a piece of team history and inject money into the Tannadice outfit.

A signed shirt worn by United captain and goalscorer Jon Daly during the 3-1 defeat away to Rangers this month went for £370. It was embroidered with a poppy and half of the money raised was donated to the Royal British Legion.

A spokesman said: ”What we have are a lot of items that never see the light of day. By selling them on eBay it gives fans the chance to get their hands on some great stuff from the recent past and history.”

Items currently for sale (link) include a pair of match gloves worn by keeper Dusan Pernis, a match ball signed by Scott Robertson and a signed shirt worn by United’s former Dutch star Freddie van der Hoorn.

Dundee United are not the first club to sell merchandise on eBay Motherwell and Everton have already raised extra revenue through the site.
