Montrose manager Paul Hegarty seeking hat-trick of wins

Montrose boss Paul Hegarty is looking for his players to win three games in a row for the first time this season to keep the momentum building ahead of their crunch pyramid play-off next month.

The Gable Endies recorded their second victory on the bounce last week against Elgin City with the manager admitting his players deserve enormous credit for their performance.

However, he admitted the display is something they have to replicate consistently between now and the end of the season as they battle for their SPFL survival.

Hegarty said: “The first-half last week was the best since John Holt and I took over at the club.

“Losing a goal just before half-time was a blow but the players dug deep to get the win.

“But one swallow doesn’t make a summer and we have told the players that.

“They have to do it consistently as we prepare for the play-offs against either Brora Rangers or Edinburgh City.

“We have to continue to dig deep as the last thing we want is for this club to fall out of the SPFL into the Highland League.

He added: “The players have to take responsibility.

“As managers and coaches, all we can do is try to prepare them properly but they have to do it on the pitch.

“They have to stay positive for the four games remaining until the end of the season.

“We have now won two in a row but I was surprised to learn that we hadn’t won three in a row this season which is a poor reflection.

“So hopefully we can put that right and keep the momentum going against Clyde.”

Hegarty will be without veteran defender Marvin Andrews who is still struggling with a knock he suffered early in the game against Queen’s Park at the start of this month as well as Bryan Deasley who is set to miss the rest of the season.

However, the manager hopes to have Leighton McIntosh available after the former Dundee striker made his comeback from injury against Elgin last week.
