Stranraer v East Fife: Naysmith encouraged by recent improvements

East Fife face the long trip to Stair Park this weekend.
East Fife face the long trip to Stair Park this weekend.

East Fife boss Gary Naysmith says his players should be encouraged by their showing at Ibrox as they prepare for the trip to Stair Park on Saturday.

The Methil men went down to a 2-0 defeat to Rangers on Saturday but made a fist of things against the runaway league leaders.

“I think we gradually grew into the game and had a few half chances,” said the Bayview boss.

“Definitely in the second half, when it was 1-0, Gary Fisher had a good chance to score and so did Liam Buchanan, so it would have been an interesting game if we had managed to get a goal back and made the game level with 25 to 30 minutes to go.

“It was important we showed we are getting better as a team and I was really, really proud of the players’ efforts.

“The lads gave us everything. I watched the first game when we were beaten 5-0 and I played in the second game when we were beaten 4-0 so anybody who has watched the three games will see there’s a big difference from what East Fife are now to what we were then.”

Following the departure of Stephen Hughes, Alexis Dutot, Cedric Tuta and Jack Smith in the last week or so, East Fife have been keen to add to their squad.

Naysmith is hopeful that another two faces may well be signed up before the weekend’s game.

Meanwhile, chairman Lee Murray told The Courier that the club is on the lookout for a new goalkeeping coach.

Anyone wishing to apply should contact the club directly for more details.
