Dundee frontman John Baird is backing former Raith Rovers teammate Brian Graham to be a big hit with Dundee United.

Baird and Graham became friends during their time at Stark’s Park, and the former is delighted to see the latter make the move to the top flight with the Tangerines.

He said: “Brian is one of my closest pals in football and I know he’s buzzing at the prospect of playing in the SPL.

“Brian will do a great job for Dundee United and soon I think he will be a big favourite with the fans. United couldn’t have signed a better professional. Brian looks after himself 100% off the park and deserves everything he gets out of the game.

“This will be his first crack at top-flight football after doing so well for Raith and I have no doubts he will grasp this opportunity with both hands.”

The pair get on so well that Baird is preparing to go on a summer break with Graham.

He said: “We’re going for a holiday together with the wives. It will be great to catch up and give us the time to chat about different things. This is a great career move for Brian and I would obviously have loved to be facing him in the SPL in a Dundee derby next season.

“At the moment, though, it looks like Hearts will stay up and we won’t get the SPL reprieve but that’s football for you.

“I’m just looking forward to seeing the big man for a bit and wish him all the best for his time at Tannadice.”
