Dunfermline’s former flying winger Willie Gibson has hit the jackpot after winning league championship medals on both sides of the border.

Gibson is in Las Vegas celebrating with his Crawley Town teammates after their Blue Square Bet Premier (former Conference) title win.

On his return from the bright lights and casinos in the United States, he hopes to join his former Pars colleagues as they lift the Division One trophy after playing Falkirk on Saturday.

Gibson turned out in 18 matches for the Fifers before switching to Crawley in the January transfer window and playing 15 times for his new team. Therefore, he qualifies for two medals an achievement of which he is rightly proud.

“I know some players have won medals with two different teams but I doubt if it has happened in the Conference and Scottish first division, so I suppose I may have made a wee bit of history!” said Gibson, who has continued to follow the Pars’ fortunes closely. “As Crawley played on Good Friday, I was able to get back to Dunfermline the following day for the Raith game.

“The atmosphere at East End Park was fantastic, the ground was packed for the first time in years and the Dunfermline boys got a great result.”

He missed the championship-clinching win over Morton on Saturday but, as Crawley prepared to face York City in their final game of the season, Gibson got the good news by text that Jim McIntyre’s men had triumphed 2-0 to clinch promotion.

“Fortunately, their end-of-season presentation is after we get back from Las Vegas so hopefully I will be able to attend,” he added.
