Arbroath conceded two goals in their first pre-season friendly and manager Paul Sheerin admitted his men had lost momentum after dominating for the first hour.

“We played okay for an hour and there are a lot of positives to take from the game,” he said.

The workout gave him the chance to run the rule over five trialists included in the squad, along with new signings Josh Falkingham and Jay Shields, both of whom made an impact.

They started strongly and should have opened the scoring on nine minutes when Falkingham was on target with a long volley which was blocked by Stenny keeper Chris McCluskey.

Marc McCulloch then had a shot roll off the keeper’s chest, before taking a corner for Bryan Scott to head over.

The home side kept piling on the pressure and Connor Thomson was just wide after collecting a great cross from Fernandez.

The first real chance for the visitors came on 39 minutes when Ross Clark came close, but Arbroath responded with another close effort from Menendez from a Falkingham cross.

Both sides changed formation for the second half with a flurry of substitutions and the deadlock was broken on 79 minutes when Stephen Murray’s shot came off the keeper and sub Pat Scullion scored from the rebound.

The visitors secured the game on 85 minutes when Grant Anderson fired in over the head of Arbroath keeper Darren Hill.
