Chris Smith grabs chance of Dunfermline move

Dunfermline have snapped up goalkeeper Chris Smith from St Mirren on a one-year deal.

No-one could be happier with the move than Smith, who had two loan stints at East End Park last season.

He was called in by the Pars in November as cover for Greg Fleming after he broke a finger.

However, after just three games Smith (24) broke a foot and returned to Paisley only for the Fifers to call on his services again.

This time it was Greg Paterson’s bad luck when he broke a leg in a March game and Smith filled in for the final six games.

Smith told Courier Sport, “I’m really happy it’s all sorted.

“I’m glad to get the opportunity to come and hopefully play as many games as I can.”

With Greg Paterson and Kyle Allison also on the books, Smith knows he can’t take anything for granted.

He said, “I’ll need to be at the top of my game every minute and every second of every game.”

Smith revealed Pars boss Jim McIntyre told him he wanted to make a move for him at the end of last season.

With the cut-backs at St Mirren he jumped at the chance to make the switch.

McIntyre said, “I’m absolutely delighted. He’s somebody I’ve pursued most of the summer.”

Meanwhile Paterson had two screws removed from his leg this week and hopes to be back in full training sooner rather than later.

Smith’s arrival isn’t the last piece of business McIntyre is likely to do this summer.

Graham Bayne being let go means Pars fans could see another new face at East End Park.

McIntyre said, “There’s players available, but we’ll take our time and do what we always do and make sure we get the right person.”
