Dundee boss Paul Hartley looking for defensive improvement

Dundee boss Paul Hartley is looking for his side to start being more miserly defensively as they attempt to secure what would be back-to-back top six finishes.

The Dark Blues have only managed to keep a clean sheet on two occasions so far this season against Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle.

That is something the manager is wanting his players to improve on as the second quarter of the campaign progresses starting tomorrow up in Inverness.

Hartley said: “We have sat down as a group and looked at the first quarter. We will now look to see where we can go and where we can be after the next quarter, how many points we can get.

“I think we have defended well in some games but we have not had enough clean sheets.

“It is something we work on quite a lot in training, the defensive side of it.

“Not just as a back four and a goalkeeper but as a team we want more clean sheets.

“So that is something we would like to do, conceding less goals.

“The goals for has been fine I think we have scored in all but two matches in the league.

“So I think overall, we are a real threat going forward and we have good options but we have to be a bit tighter at the other end.

“It might just be because of the way we have been playing. We are really offensive but we have to be better defensively over the next quarter if we want to be in that top six.”
