Jackie McNamara believes Dundee United’s testing tour of Holland has served its purpose, declaring the Tannadice side ready to hit the ground running in the coming campaign.
McNamara’s men claimed a hugely impressive come-from-behind win against Eredivisie side NAC Breda on Tuesday, with the second-half display arguably their best of pre-season.
A maiden goal from Mario Bilate and a third in as many games from Brian Graham also gave the Tangerines boss plenty of reasons to be cheerful at the end of their stay, which included a 2-1 defeat against Utrecht and a 6-0 hammering of minnows FC Winterswijk.
“There are two games left of pre-season Hibs away and Leeds away and I think we are getting there,” he said.
“I am happy with the squad. I still have Jaro (Fojut) to come in and hopefully he can give us an hour at Easter Road. The fans have not seen him yet and he should be okay for Sunday.
“You can see Mario (Bilate) is way off match fitness but if we can get him up to speed he will be a real plus for us and it was great to see him get his goal. Hopefully he can get a start on Sunday.
“There was real belief after the equaliser, they were not such a good side that they would carve us open every time we wanted to go forward. We pressured at the right moment and were very good at times.”
