Dundee United near agreement with Mixu Paatelainen for Tannadice return
ByThe Courier Reporter
Dundee United have their man at last – and are set to unveil Mixu Paatelainen as their new manager.
In an unexpected twist, the former Tangerines’ striker re-emerged as a strong contender for the post on Tuesday morning, having first been spoken to around two weeks ago.
Detailed talks continued into the night and a deal has now been agreed.
The possibility of John Hughes taking over from Jackie McNamara was still a live one on Tuesday, as it was understood ‘Yogi’ was to be keen to speak to Tangerines’ chairman Stephen Thompson, despite Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s public reluctance to let that happen.
But ex-Cowdenbeath, Hibs, Kilmarnock and Finland head coach Paatelainen was the chosen one at the end of a long and winding process, despite the fact he was reported to have withdrawn from the race to focus on securing a job in England.
Barring any overnight change of heart, he will now get to work with his new players ahead of Sunday’s match with Hearts.
