Dundee United 4 Partick Thistle 1: Tangerines look to take red-hot form into Scottish Cup

John Souttar (second left) savouring the good times with Dundee United on Saturday.

Dundee United’s John Souttar will definitely not be lacking in motivation before Friday’s Scottish Cup tie with Kilmarnock at Tannadice.

The teenager produced another outstanding performance at the heart of the Tangerines defence on Saturday in the 4-1 win over Partick Thistle.

Gary Mackay-Steven struck twice, while United also had Andrew Robertson and Brian Graham on the scoresheet with all four goals being set up by Souttar’s teenage team-mate Ryan Gauld.

The Jags had no answer to United’s attacking swagger with several forays forward being started by dangerous runs from the back by Souttar.

Now, the player cannot wait for Friday’s game when he is determined to help expunge the painful memory of last month’s controversial League Cup defeat in Inverness.

And after sampling the joy of United’s 2010 Scottish Cup triumph as a fan, he would love to do the same as a player.

He said: “We will just train as normal and prepare properly for the game. We will give it 100% and hopefully we can come away with a win.

“I didn’t play a part in it but we felt robbed after what happened up in Inverness in the League Cup.

“Watching it was really frustrating and I just hope the same doesn’t happen to us again.

“Me and Gauldy were in the crowd at the cup final in 2010 and it was just brilliant watching all the boys.

“It would be different class if we could now go all the way to the final and win it again but we will just take every game as it comes, starting with Killie on Friday.”
