Raith Rovers signing Lewis Vaughan ‘can go far in the game’

Raith Rovers manager Grant Murray believes the club have tied down a “wonderful prospect” by getting Lewis Vaughan to commit to a new contract.

The 17-year-old forward put pen to paper on an improved three-year deal with the Kirkcaldy club this week and that means the youth academy graduate will be at Stark’s Park through to the summer of 2016.

Murray has already shown faith in Vaughan by handing him starts in the first team this season, with the teenager netting his first goal for the club against Queen’s Park in last month’s 6-0 League Cup win.

And the Rovers boss is convinced Vaughan can go from strength to strength.

“If he keeps his head down as I am sure he will and continues to learn his trade, I am absolutely certain he can go far in the game,” Murray said.

“But I am very pleased that for now he has decided to commit to Raith Rovers.

“He has already made quite an impact in his first team performances to date, and I expect him to play an important role as the season progresses.”

Chief executive Eric Drysdale added: “The board is very pleased that we’ve been able to persuade Lewis to complete his football development at Raith Rovers.

“He’s definitely got a great future and will no doubt go far, but for the foreseeable future we look forward to seeing his undoubted talents on display for this club.”
