Dundee Stars celebrated booking a spot in the Elite League play-offs by hammering Edinburgh Capitals last night.

Justin Faryna claimed a treble as Stars overpowered Edinburgh 13-2 to follow up Saturday’s 10-2 win over the same side.

It was the Murrayfield men’s 18th straight league defeat.

Dundee were 8-0 ahead after 38 minutes before Edinburgh counted and the home side fired another four without reply before Riley Emmerson’s men claimed their second.

Faryna started the rout after 26 seconds and John Dolan followed less than four minutes later.

Lou Dickenson counted three minutes after that and Mikael Lidhammar made it 4-0 after 15 minutes.

Dickenson increased the agony 14 minutes later and Scott Brannon was on the scoresheet a minute after that.

Faryna’s second arrived on the power play after 36 minutes and Dolan’s second came two minutes later.

Trevor Gerling opened Edinburgh’s account after 42 minutes but Riley Wetmore scored a minute later with Faryna’s treble arriving after 44 minutes. Ben Edmonds scored the 11th goal for Stars after 54 minutes and Lidhammar’s second arrived 39 seconds later. Tyler Plews scored Edinburgh’s second after 57 minutes but Edmonds scored his second with less than two minutes left.

Elsewhere, Evan Mosey scored the winner 2 minutes 53 seconds into sudden-death overtime as Nottingham Panthers edged Fife Flyers 2-1 at Kirkcaldy.
