Montrose building award goes to office and flat project

The winning building.
The winning building.

A striking new building by Montrose Golf Course was honoured at the Montrose Society Civic Awards.

The office and flat on Traill Drive, which nestles between existing golf club buildings at the Links, won the ceremony’s top award.

It was commissioned by accountant Nick Bradford, designed by Montrose-based firm Kerry Smith Architects and built by contractors Pert-Bruce Construction.

The external judge, retired Aberdeen architect Mike Beattie, said: “This striking new building has clean, sharp, modern lines and yet it sits very well in its location and golf links environment.

“There has been great attention to detail and the bold external stair to the upper floor is an integral part of the design.”

The project also picked up a second award, for craftsmanship, in recognition of the outstanding joinery detail of the building.

A capacity crowd was present at the George Hotel for the awards.

Society president Sandy Munro said: “We have been spoiled for choice with the selection of entries, and with our eventual winners this year.

“These are some outstanding examples of how good design and execution can make Montrose and its surrounding area a more pleasant place to live.”
