Residents fear changes to sheltered housing in Angus could leave them vulnerable to problem neighbours

Sheltered housing residents fear they may end up living “cheek by jowl” with troubled teens and ex-convicts due to council proposals.

Today will see protesting pensioners make a last-ditch assault on Angus Council in a bid to protect tenancy support officers and other services they consider to be crucial.

The local authority will present a raft of proposals to radically reform the sheltered housing estate, including plans to leave several communities without any such accommodation.

More than one third of tenancies could be reclassified as retirement housing for over-60s.

But a vocal element of the 626 tenants more than half of which are over 80 fear a change to new applications for sheltered housing will see young people and offenders with additional needs judged fit to move in next door.
