VIDEO: Wives and girlfriends of Condor marines show their girlpower ahead of Lanrick Challenge

Royal Marines “wags” have been put through their paces in preparation for an attempt to emulate their super-fit spouses later this summer.

Next month the wives and girlfriends of men from 45 Commando, near Arbroath, are taking on the Lanrick Challenge, near Doune, when hundreds of participants will tackle 6km and 12km courses designed to test fitness, endurance and mental strength.

The event will raise money for the Sandpiper Trust and Help Our Wounded Royal Marines and Supporting Arms charities as participants run, scramble and wade their way round the estate on the 50-obstacle course designed by RM physical training instructors from the Angus base.

The Condor ladies will field a contingent including wives, girlfriends and Commando daughter Kimberley Littler, and they hope to be joined by some of the men from the base.

Yesterday Condor PTI Corporal Bradley Lotts tested their state of readiness for the gruelling challenge with a warm-up for wags and marines.

Kelly Gardiner, whose husband serves with 45 Commando, said: “A lot of our husbands have been involved in Afghanistan and we know men who have been wounded so it is nice to do something for the charity which supports them, as well as getting together for a bit of team building.”
