Dundee City Council has been rewarded for turning the urban landscape into a vibrant lush green habitat.

The city has received national recognition after picking up the Wright Sustainability Award at the recent Beautiful Scotland ceremony.

In recent years the council has created attractive and sustainable planting displays along roads and in parks.

These can be seen at Dudhope Park, Taybank, Baxter Park, Stobsmuir and Harefield Road.

One of the most successful initiatives this year has been the creation of wildflower areas, including the roundabout at the foot of Lochee Road.

The cornfield annual displays along Riverside are a resource for pollinating insects during the summer and early autumn.

Next year the council will be expanding the number of these areas.

Elsewhere, Riverside nature park continues to develop its biodiversity interest with around 150 bird species seen since it opened in 2011.

Environment convener Craig Melville congratulated staff for winning the award.

He said: “I am delighted that Dundee City Council has been given this award, which recognises the tremendous effort that the council has put into improving the environment by providing high-quality, sustainable planting at sites throughout the city.”
