Driver has ‘no doubt’ car tyres were burst because of her Yes Scotland stickers

Morag says the stickers will stay.
Morag says the stickers will stay.

A disabled pro-independence campaigner believes her car was targeted by vandals because she had large “Yes Scotland” stickers on the side of the vehicle.

Morag Lennie, 69, of BrantwoodAvenue in Dundee, said she went outside her house to find that both nearside tyres were flat and the car was unmovable.

She said she called the Motability emergency number for assistance and the mechanic who arrived blew the tyres up but said he believed they had been deliberately let down. He took the car to the nearby Kwik-Fit in Strathmartine Road where it was discovered the tyres had been burst.

Ms Lennie’s son has now arranged for a CCTV system to be installed at her house in case of further incidents.

However, a defiant Morag said she would not be removing the stickers from her car or her house.

She said: “I’m still shaking four hours later not with fear but with blood-burning anger.

“The tyres have been stabbed in thetyrewall, probably not with a sharp knife but with something, so it was deliberate and I have absolutely no doubt it’s because of the Yes stickers on my car.

“The thing is I’m disabled now and that car is my lifeline it’s the only way I can get around.

“Any kind of umpteen different emergencies could have happened and I wouldn’t be able to drive my car, and I’ve no doubt whatsoever it was me they were targeting.

“But I’m not taking the stickers off the car there’s not a chance in hell.

“I’ve got Yes stickers in every window of my house and a saltire flying on the front of the house. That’s the third saltire I’ve had there as the first two have been stolen.

“The first flag flew for 10 years on the Portacabin outside where the ScottishParliament is now in Edinburgh, so that was upsetting when it was stolen.

“My son, who lives in London, has called a firm out to install a CCTV system above my front door now. They’re coming out first thing tomorrow morning.

“He warned me that the car might be a target because of the stickers.I don’t give a flying damn they can do what they like; I’m not taking my stickers down for anybody.

“I’m not taking my saltire down. I told the police about this but you never see a police car patrolling round here.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland Tayside Division confirmed they had received a report of vandalism in the street.
