Dundee man admits sexual assault during disturbance that forced Glasgow-Turkey flight to divert to Gatwick

Tosh's behaviour forced the pilot to divert to Gatwick Airport.

A Dundee man who caused a holiday flight to be diverted has admitted sexually assaulting a woman on the plane.

Andrew Tosh, 34, was arrested last Wednesday after the flight from Glasgow to Dalaman in Turkey he was travelling on was forced to land at Gatwick following a disturbance on board.

The pilot took the decision to reroute the plane after cabin crew grew concerned about Tosh’s behaviour.

Tosh admitted being drunk on an aircraft, threatening behaviour, sexual assault and assault when he appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court, just a few miles from Gatwick Airport.

He was released on conditional bail and ordered to attend Lewes Crown Court on June 11 for a pre-sentencing hearing.

Shocked witnesses had told how they helped to restrain the passenger.

Police boarded the plane at Gatwick and Tosh was placed in handcuffs and leg restraints before being carried off.

Eyewitness Jimmy Costello, 36, who is also from Dundee, said that Tosh appeared to be getting “out of hand” after the flight took off.

“The cabin crew started moving the people who were seated behind him and they spoke to him, trying to keep him calm,” he said.

“People were saying that he was a bad flyer and that he got really nervous. It was arranged to divert the plane.

“As we were coming down he was shouting that we were going to crash.

“It was an all-female cabin crew and they had asked if I would help them to restrain the passenger if things got out of hand.

“I held his wrists against his chest and I held him down until the plane landed.”
