Where everybody thinks the same? Yesbar planned for Dundee

The Yesbar in Glasgow

The owner of the independence-supporting pub in Glasgow has said he wants to open a similar bar in Dundee.

Jim McLaughlin changed the name of his pub from Vespbar to Yesbar in the weeks leading up to the September 18 referendum on Scottish independence.

Although the change was only supposed to be temporary, the pub’s success has convinced him there is demand for a chain of similarly themed establishments across Scotland.

The pub’s taking are up 25% on the year since it changed its name from Vespbar to Yesbar.

And the 37-year-old believes Dundee is the perfect location for the new pub as it was the only Scottish city other than Glasgow where a majority of people voted for independence.

Now Mr McLaughlin has told STV: “We’ve been inundated with emails from all over the country saying, ‘open here, open there’. Lots have sent us info about possibles sites.

“I’ve been making some calls and looking into a couple of possibilities. The big one is Dundee, so many people have been asking us to open there.

“We’re looking at expanding the Yesbar brand across major towns and cities to use it as a hub for pro-independence campaigning.”
