Preliminary work has begun at Dunfermline’s Queen Margaret Hospital to transform the main reception area.

The work, which is part of the Queen Margaret Development Project, aims to provide a more welcoming and modern environment, with a number of new facilities set to enhance the experience of patients and visitors.

The development work includes a new reception area with additional self-check in facilities, a new Aroma coffee shop to replace the existing facility and redesigned waiting areas.

The reception area will also include:

* A new carers’ information hub

* A new retail unit

* New infant feeding facilities

* Enhanced public toilet facilities

* A new changing area for disabled adults

* Improved signage.

The work is expected to be completed in early autumn. The first phase will see the replacement of the coffee shop with a new facility that will come under the NHS Scotland Aroma brand. An interim coffee shop will operate in an alternative part of the reception area during the construction period.

Margaret Henderson, Queen Margaret development project lead, said: “The construction work within the main reception area is one part of the wider redevelopment taking place at Queen Margaret and we have been fortunate to have patient representatives involved with the design plans for the main reception from the beginning.

“We are confident that the changes to the reception area will provide a more welcoming and modern environment, while the new Aroma coffee shop will provide an excellent facility, complementing the WRVS coffee shop already on-site.

“In addition, we will have a number of new facilities within the main reception area, including a carers’ information hub, a dedicated area containing information on groups and organisations that provide support and advice.

“Construction work will take place in a number of phases to keep disruption to a minimum for our patients, staff and visitors.”
