A teenager is in a critical but stable condition after he got into difficulty while swimming in the River Tay at the weekend.
Emergency services were called to the incident which took place near Murthly Primary School, Perthshire, around 3.35pm on Saturday.
The 18-year-old male had been swimming in the Tay when he got into difficulty.
A police spokesperson confirmed the youngster’s condition was “critical but stable”.
He said: “Police Scotland was called around 3.35pm on Saturday, to assist an 18-year-old male who had got into difficulty whilst swimming in the River Tay near Murthly, Perthshire.
“Police and Scottish Ambulance Service assisted in the rescue and the male has been taken to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, where his condition is currently described as critical but stable.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service added that they had attended to help with access issues.
In a separate incident, a male was taken to Ninewells Hospital to be treated for a broken leg.
The van he was driving was involved in a one-vehicle accident. The incident took place around 10.24am at Waterloo, near Birnam, on the B867 road.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “The male was driving a red Vauxhall Combo van.
“He was released from the vehicle by firecrew and taken to hospital with a broken right femur.”
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and managed to release the man from the van.
