Many of Scotland’s top classical musicians will be descending upon a tiny church on the banks of the River Isla for the annual Ruthven Music Festival.
The 24th festival will begin with a concert on the evening of Friday June 7 and continue with a second concert on the afternoon of Sunday June 9.
“The Ruthven Parish Festival has a reputation for presenting excellent programmes of vocal and orchestral music,” said Evelyn Hood, secretary of Ruthven Festival’s management committee.
“This year will be no exception. We are looking forward to welcoming festival-goers to musical delights from both new young talent and seasoned performers.
“The June 7 concert will feature the music of Italian composers including, for the first time, a Chamber Organ Continuo, a style of music ideally suited to the acoustics of Ruthven Church.”
As well as performances by the festival’s orchestra, the Ruthven Festival Musicians, there will be performances by oboe soloist Geoffrey Bridge and Perth choir Chansons.
The concert on June 9 will revolve around the theme If Music Be The Food Of Love and include Spring and Summer from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and work by composers Tchaikowsky, Glazunov, Percy Fletcher and Astor Piazzolla, an Argentinean composer famous for his tangos.
The violin soloist in the Vivaldi and Piazzolla pieces will be Ben Norris, a young violinist from Perth.
At both concerts, the Ruthven Festival Musicians will be led by Audrey Mattner, with Howard Duthie conducting the orchestra on June 7 and, on June 9, Allan Young wielding the conductor’s baton.
Seats for each concert cost £16 (to include wine reception, Friday evening buffet/Sunday afternoon strawberries and cream) with under-12s admitted free of charge. To book call 01828 632558.
