Independence: The Courier brings the debate to Arbroath

Well, last week was a mighty success.

The first Courier Debates the independence referendum was a well-attended, lively and interesting discussion with three excellent panellists at the Gardyne Theatre.

You’ll all be happy to know, then, that we’re hitting up my home county of Angus tonight. We will be at Arbroath’s Webster Theatre with a group of people sure to provide colourful and fascinating insight.

Our panel in alphabetical order, Professor John Curtice of Strathclyde University and the What Scotland Thinks blog, Farmers for Yes’ Jim Fairlie and Scottish Conservative North East Scotland MSP Alex Johnstone will be sure to provide an engaging discussion about the biggest decision Scotland has faced in 300 years.Reserve your seat by clicking here or phoning 01382 575293As before, though, we are making sure that all questions heading the way of our guests are coming from our audience.

This is about finding out what’s occupying your minds when it comes to the debate as a whole and allowing representatives to address your concerns. So don’t worry if you haven’t got a question in, there will be an “open floor” session during the event.

In the spirit of Local Matters, we will be bringing our debates to Perth and Fife over the coming weeks.

Next Thursday will see Yes Scotland chief executive Blair Jenkins join the panel alongside referendum expert Matt Qvortrup and Mid Scotland and Fife Tory representative Liz Smith at North Inch Community Campus.

Finally, we wrap up in Dunfermline with a cracker. On the panel is Yes Scotland chairman Dennis Canavan, Professor Curtice and local Labour MP Thomas Docherty.

I’d sign up for your local event now if I were you, given how fast seats for our first debates have been disappearing!
