Dunfermline chairman Bob Garmory praises management team

Dunfermline chairman Bob Garmory has praised manager Allan Johnston and his back-room team for their contribution to the Pars’ flying start to the season.

The East End Park side have only lost once so far and have scored 32 goals, including three as they beat Premiership Dundee in the League Cup last week.

Garmory is in no doubt that Johnston, who was handed the managerial reins in May, is one of the main reasons behind the transformation of the team after the desperate disappointments of last season.

The chairman said: “Overall, we have made a great start to the season and Allan along with Sandy Clark and John Potter deserve a lot of credit for that along with the players.

“Allan is meticulous in his preparation and brings a lot of care and attention to the role of manager.

“He helped Queen of the South win promotion from this league which is one of the reasons we brought him here.

“Allan brought the players back early this summer and looked to pick the heads up after what had been a poor season.

“We had 10 players contracted and they have come on in leaps and bounds.

“So it has not just been about the players he has signed.”

That poor season saw Dunfermline’s dreams of promotion to the Championship shattered with the Pars ultimately finishing in seventh place in League One.

Garmory admits it would have been understandable if the club’s fans had lost faith after that poor campaign but instead, they rallied round with a superb show of support.

The chairman added: “We have sold 2,425 season tickets which is fantastic.

“Considering where we were situated at the end of last season, it would have been easy for the fans to turn their heads to the wall.

“Instead, we have seen an increase in sales.

“So I would like to send a massive thank you to the fans and all the volunteers who do so much work for the club.

“Overall, the board is very positive about the future of the club.

“Dunfermline are a club on the up and a lot of other sides will be pleased with that.

“We took 500 fans with us up to Peterhead recently which was tremendous and their board thanked us for that big boost to their attendance.”
