Brechin boss Darren Dods hit with injury hammer blow

Brechin boss Darren Dods fears central defender Ross Perry could be out for the foreseeable future after damaging his knee during the club’s Scottish Cup defeat at Airdrie on Saturday.

The 25-year-old former Rangers and Raith player had to be stretchered off after catching his studs in the artificial turf.

His knee is still badly swollen and the full extent of the damage has yet to be assessed but the Glebe gaffer is already resigned to being without the player for some time, which is a further blow after on-loan Raith defender David Bates was recalled by his parent club last week.

Dods said: “I spoke to Ross on Sunday night and he is still in a lot of pain.

“His knee is badly swollen and we will have to wait for that to go down before he can be assessed further and maybe sent for a scan.

“His studs just caught in the artificial turf but it doesn’t look good for him.

“It might be his ligament, cartilage or both.

“Hopefully, he will be out for weeks instead of months but it is still a huge blow for Ross and the team.

“We obviously lost David Bates last week after he was recalled by Raith Rovers who have injury problems of their own.

“It is disappointing as we were starting to look solid defensively but now we have lost two players.

“We will probably have to try to bring someone in but at the moment I will just have to keep playing myself.”
