Montrose boss Paul Hegarty hoping momentum has not been lost after enforced break

Montrose boss Paul Hegarty is hoping his side can take up from where they left off before last weekend’s enforced break.

The Gable Endies were due to play Stirling Albion last Saturday but the game was postponed because of heavy snow.

Prior to the scheduled trip to Forthbank, the Angus side had been in confident frame of mind after winning two and drawing one of their last three games.

Now, Hegarty, who brought in four new players last month in Chris Templeman, Jamie Clarke, Neil Martyniuk and Alex Tokarczyk, is looking for the new additions to freshen things up and to keep the momentum going against East Fife at home today.

The manager said: “I was pleased with the business we did in January. To be honest, you are never sure if you will be able to bring any in until the deal is done.

“So it was good to add four players and I have to thank the board who have been very supportive.

“It was important that we brought in the sort of players that suited us and were determined not to just pick up a wage but fight to get into our first team.

“Hopefully the new additions will freshen things up and put a bit of pressure on the ones already at the club, who know they have to keep their form going if they want to stay in the team.

“We had built up a bit of momentum with two wins and a draw in recent weeks. When you are in that sort of form, you cannot wait for the next game but unfortunately our match at Stirling was postponed last week because of the weather.

“It has been re-arranged for next Tuesday which isn’t ideal as some of the lads will have to get time off work.

“So I will have to use the full squad over the next week with a really difficult game to start with against Gary Naysmith’s East Fife.

“They have done really well recently and deserve to be sitting second top of the league so we know we are in for a tough game.

“But hopefully we can pick up from where we left off before last week’s break.”

Montrose will be without long-term injury victims Ross McCord and Paul Watson.

East Fife manager Gary Naysmith has warned his players that they face a tough battle this afternoon.

He said: “Montrose look to have turned things around in recent weeks with two wins and a draw in their last three games.

“That is decent form and their manager Paul Hegarty deserves great credit for his dealings in the transfer market and also for making Links Park a difficult place to go all season.”

The Bayview side are in fine form with Naysmith praising the collective spirit at the club that saw them climb four league places last month.

Naysmith said: “It has been a positive time with four wins in a row, five wins out of six and a move into second top place. Five or six weeks ago it looked like we were slipping out of things in the promotion chase but we have got ourselves going again.

“Everyone at the club deserves credit for that, especially the ground staff. They have managed to get games on when other teams haven’t and that has allowed us to keep momentum going.

Naysmith is the only injury doubt for the Fifers as he is suffering from a tight hamstring.
