Murray Davidson could have broken a cheekbone

St Johnstone's Murray Davidson receives treatment after suffering a head knock.

Murray Davidson was fortunate he didn’t suffer a serious facial injury according to St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright.

The Perth midfielder has a badly swollen eye and is recovering from the effects of concussion after the accidental clash with Nicky Law which ended his League Cup quarter-final at Ibrox prematurely.

He’ll miss tonight’s clash with Motherwell, and possibly one more game after it, but it could easily have been another long lay-off the former Livingston man was facing.

“Murray had four stitches in a wound and has got a bit of damage to his eye but the main concern is the concussion he suffered,” Wright confirmed.

“We work off our doc’s guidelines so that is him ruled out for a minimum of seven days. Hopefully he will be back for the Dundee game but he misses Motherwell.

“If he hadn’t been concussed I think the eye problem wouldn’t have stopped him playing.

“He can’t remember anything about it and we can’t take any chances with Murray. It’s unfortunate for him and sod’s law that when you have come back from a long term injury you pick up a knock.

“It looked quite nasty when I saw it on television. There was no malice in it and no blame attached to anybody. But I think Murray was lucky he didn’t fracture his cheekbone or eye socket and suffer more damage.”
