Sheffield Steelers v Dundee Stars: Hutchins hopes to bounce back from Clan defeat

Dundee Stars take to the ice in Sheffield having not laced up their skates since Sunday’s home defeat by Scottish rivals Braehead Clan.

The Tayside club don’t have access to ice until today but that is when the squad are travelling to Yorkshire.

Coach Jeff Hutchins said: “We have no ice on Monday and Tuesday and we go into the game at Sheffield without having skated since Sunday.

“It’s not ideal but it is the way things are and we have to get on with it.”

Reflecting on Sunday’s 4-0 home defeat to Clan, he observed: “If you look at the goals against us then it was mistakes which cost us.

“Other teams make mistakes and we are not capitalising. If we make mistakes then other teams are scoring.

“I have brought guys in to play a role and you need everybody to understand their roles in this team.

“Some players appear to be confused. If I have brought in a stay-at-home defenceman that is what I want him to do, I want him to stay-at-home.”

Hutchins, a former Sheffield player, added: “Their budget is two-and-a-half times higher than ours and it is high pressure. They have a good squad but they are expected to win every night.

“We have good character in the dressing room and the guys are working hard. In the last two games (at Belfast Giants and at home to Braehead) the guys were not lazy and they were working but they made errors which cost us.”
