The Dundee fabrication arm of rapidly-expanding energy services company Rigmar Group is to create 30 new jobs after securing a multi-million-pound oil rig repair contract.
Rigmar Fabrication said the deal with energy giant Transocean for works on its Galaxy II platform was the largest single contract secured by the Port of Dundee-based division.
The company has had a presence at the Port of Dundee since it bought and rebranded Riverside Engineering last year.
It has since outgrown Riverside’s premises at Prince Charles Wharf and has invested more than £750,000 to significantly expand the scale of its fabrication operation.
The company now has five sheds available at the eastern end of the docks increasing its overall capacity from 11,420sq ft at the time of the Riverside Engineering takeover to more than 142,000sq ft today.
The Transocean agreement will see the company deploy its engineering and design, blasting and painting, construction and fabrication capabilities over the course of the 80-day contract.
Rigmar managing director Robert Dalziel said the contract was the largest ever secured by the rig repair division.
He said: “To secure a contract of this magnitude with a respected company such as Transocean demonstrates our growing reputation within the industry for delivering the highest standard of service.
“Over the past 24 months, Rigmar has invested significantly in our offering to ensure we are well placed to meet the needs of this rapidly growing market.
“This was demonstrated through the acquisition of Riverside Engineering which helped us to further strengthen our position within the subsea, onshore IRM (inspection, repair and maintenance), offshore IRM and renewable industry.”
The company has recently added a resource division to manage its rapid expansion and the company is recruiting for 30 new posts.
“Rigmar has launched an aggressive growth strategy,” Mr Dalziel said. “In the past two years alone, the company has increased its turnover from £9 million to £25 million and grown its team to 91.
“Partially due to the acquisition of Rigmar Fabrication and the launch of the Rigmar Training Centre, Rigmar has secured further contracts with organisations such as Rowan, Subsea 7, Stena Drilling and Ensco.
“In order to ensure we deliver on our commitments under these contracts, it’s important that we have the right team in place.
“Rigmar has launched a new recruitment division that will enable us to identify and invest in a team that will help us move the company forward.”
