The 2015 Perth Show enjoyed a typical 2015 summer’s day it rained in the morning and then it rained again in the afternoon.
Fortunately the morning affair was a light one and even the heavier shower late in the day didn’t disrupt proceedings too much.
It turned out to be great day for the Aberdeen Angus heifer Retties Lady Ruth which conquered all to be crowned champion of champions against the native horse, the sheep and the goat champions.
Judge Jim Farquharson said: “She was well grown, well presented and behaved very well in the ring.”
Owned by Donald Rankin from Skye, she was shown on Saturday by her breeders, Richard and Carol Rettie from Alloa.
Bob Adam, Newhouse of Glamis, had already placed the interbreed cattle and his reserve to Retties Lady Ruth was the Limousin heifer Ronick Jingo from the Dick family at Mains of Throsk, Stirling.
His choice out of a strong field in the interbreed pairs landed squarely with the Limousin breed with the winners being from the Dicks just ahead of a duo from their near neighbours, the Callions at Bolfornought, Stirling.
The junior bull interbreed, also judged by Mr Adam, saw continental breeds to the fore with the trophy going to the young Charolais bull Balthayock Justice from Major David Walter, Balthayock, Glencarse.
The sheep interbreeds, judged by Jimmy Sinclair, Crookston, Heriot, saw the Texel champion from Malcolm Reid and family, Grassmainston, Alloa, take the supreme title.
Their gimmer Kelso Venus is by Kelso Prostar and has already stood champion at Central and West Fife this season.
In the sheep pairs contest, it was a triumph for Robert and Maimie Paterson, Dunblane, with a Beltex gimmer and shearling tup partnership.

GOATS Fiona Fairley and Rebecca Fleming, Avonvale, Falkirk, with the two-yearold British first kidder Ladeside Ladyria by Guilden Glaenavon and out of Ladeside Ladyrima. First at RHS and champion at Ayr Goat Show.
HORSES Taking home the overall heavy horse supreme title and the Perth Quaich was the Shetland champion Charlotte of Transy, shown by Sarah Ross. Horse interbreed judge Robin Stewart, from Banchory, was thorough in his inspection of the three champions forward from the Clydesdale, Highland pony and Shetland pony sections. He said he was looking for a horse with good hair, good bone and also needed to move well. Ticking all the boxes was Charlotte of Transy, the Transy Stud’s eightyear- old home-bred yeld mare by Earnbrig Ragnor and out of Centenary of Transy. This year she has stood champion at Braco, and although she was unshown in 2014 due to having a foal at foot she is also a past champion at Ayr. Reserve was the Clydesdale leader, Bencannon Emerald, from John Adamson. This five-year-old yeld mare led the female championship but it needed the umpire James Tennant to sort out the overall as both judges refused to back down over their respective champions. Sandie Kydd won the in-hand Highland pony section with her eight-year-old gelding Burnside Vorlich, while she also stood reserve champion of the ridden Highland ponies behind Elinor Steven’s multitalented Glenbanchor Somerled.

CLYDESDALES John Adamson, with Bencannon Emerald, a five-year-old yeld mare, purchased as a foal from her breeder Jennifer Reid in Ireland. Champion at Stirling, has previously stood champion at the Great Yorkshire as a yearling, and winning at Lanark and Cupar foal shows. Reserve: Robert Sibbald and Mrs Rimmer, Thorn Farm, Dollar, with Shielhill Diamond Jubilee, the reserve female champion. Females: John Adamson with Bencannon Emerald. Reserve: Robert Sibbald and Mrs Rimmer, with Shielhill Diamond Jubilee, a three-year-old filly by Mollinshead Celebrity and Shielhill Sheer Delight. This year stood reserve at Doune and Dunblane and the Royal Highland and previously overall champion at Kittochside Heavy Horse Show, reserve at Perth, first at Braco and second at the Royal Highland Show. Males: Paterson and Sibbald, Thorn Farm, Dollar, with Macfin Starlight, a yearling colt by Glebeview Sir Charles and out of Macfin Rose Lily. Male champion at Stirling and reserve at both Braco and Doune and Dunblane this season. Reserve: Thomas Clark & Son, Muirton Stud, Abbey Farm, Madderty, Perth, with Muirton Sportsman, a home-bred yearling colt making its show debut. He is by Muirton Sabre and out of Muirton Myra.
OVERALL HIGHLAND PONY IN-HAND Sandie Kydd, Alyth, with Burnside Vorlich, an eight-year-old gelding by Moss-side Iain Mor and out of Burnside Quintessa. Also the ridden reserve champion at the show. Stood ridden champion at Angus and reserve at Strathmore & District Riding Club Show. Previously in-hand and ridden champion at Kirriemuir and placed third in-hand at the Royal Highland. Reserve: Charles McQuattie, Strathmore, Kingsmuir, Forfar, with the female champion Rosie of Strathmore. Female champion: Charles McQuattie, with Rosie of Strathmore, a seven-year-old home-bred mare by Strathmore Cameron and out of Maggie Rose of Strathmore. Second at the Royal Highland Show on her only other outing of the season but has been a prolific prizewinner. She was shown with her first foal at foot, a filly by last year’s Perth Show male champion Pipe Major of Whitefield. Reserve: Messrs GM Baird, West Whitefield, Burrelton, Balirgowrie, with Ulrika of Whitefield, a threeyear- old home-bred filly, by Oliver of Foreglen and out of Queencake of Whitefield. This marked a third successive win at Perth Show and this season stood reserve at Angus and first at the breed show, she is also a previous champion at Drymen. Male champion: Sandie Kydd with Burnside Vorlich. Reserve: Rebecca Chalmers, Millhorn Farm, Rosemount, Blairgowrie, with Daurknin Hector of Millhorn, a home-bred yearling gelding. Sired by Trowan Miracle and out of Xantia of Craignetherty, was best opposite sex to the champion at Braco and first at the breed show.
HIGHLAND PONY UNDER SADDLE Elinor Steven, Hillhead Farm, Kingsbarns, St Andrews, with Glenbanchor Somerled, a 10-year-old gelding by Moss-side Iain Mor and out of Glenbanchor Lady Fiona. Previously champion at Fife, Kinross and Blair. Reserve: Sandie Kydd with Burnside Vorlich.
SHETLAND PONIES Transy Stud with Charlotte of Transy, an eight-year-old home-bred yeld mare by Earnbrig Ragnor and out of Centenary of Transy. This year was champion at Braco, she was unshown in 2014 due to having a foal at foot and is a past champion at Ayr. Reserve: Mrs Louise Wilson, Cassindilly Farm, Ceres, with Thordale Kiki, the reserve standard champion. Standard: Transy Stud with Charlotte at Transy. Reserve: Mrs Louise Wilson, with Thordale Kiki, a five-year-old yeld mare. Bred in Shetland by Taylor Millhouse, the pony is sired by Millhouse Independent and out of Millhouse Raw Deal. This year stood reserve female champion at the Royal Highland, champion at Fife and overall supreme at the Festival of Champions. Miniature: Alichbrae Shetland Ponies, West Craigvannie Cottage, Crieff, with Kerswell Montgomery, nine-year-old stallion by New Park Chieftain and out of Kerewell Mitzie. First outing for 2015, but previously overall reserve supreme at Shetland Pony Group spring show, champion at Barco and reserve at Fife. The sire of two foals at the stud this year. Reserve: Mrs Adele Stewart, Narinia Lottie, a four-year-old yeld mare by Firth Jason and out of Cilla of Tullich. Champion at Braco and second at the Royal Highland Show this season, has previously stood reserve at Perth and youngstock champion at the Central Group breed show.
DONKEYS Mrs Elma Cunningham, Hillhead Farm, Yieldshields, Carluke, with Gamlingay Love In A Mist, a sevenyear- old yeld mare by Gamlingay Prophecy and out of Camalan Tamerisk. Previously champion at Perth and Alyth, and this was the third successive year winning the Scottish donkey championship. Twice champion at the Royal Highland and British national champion in 2011. Reserve: Mrs Elizabeth Kempsell, Moss-side of Kirkbuddo, Arbroath, with Eddieston Lady Naomi, a three-year-old filly by Bunn’s Mr Teddy Bear and out of Eddieston Florentina. Champion at Alyth and previously reserve at Perth.
