Broughty Ferry architects Nicoll Russell Studios was among the winners at the Scottish Property Awards.

The firm scooped the architectural excellence award for a commercial building for the Water’s Edge building in Dundee, pictured.

The former transit shed at the City Quay was transformed into a modern commercial office development after a multi-million-pound investment by Tayforth Properties – owned by 4J Studio founders Chris van der Kuyl and Paddy Burns.

Ric Russell, director in Nicoll Russell Studios, said: “Water’s Edge has been judged against the very best buildings across Scotland.

“The project’s reinvention of a redundant category B listed building involving extensive conservation measures as well as carefully designed modern interventions is highly innovative and has proven highly popular with tenants and award judges.

“The project has already won several awards and shows what can be done to repurpose existing buildings which is key to fight climate change.

“A major part of that endeavour is the bold new services tower which incorporates all of the building’s state of the art services and 100m2 of photovoltaics, which make the building both highly efficient and a landmark.”

Whitehorn Hall at St Andrews University won the student accommodation development of the year for HLM Architects.
