Dundee-based waste recycler NWH Group has reported a 60% increase in domestic skip customers during the coronavirus pandemic.
After temporarily closing at the end of March, the West Gourdie Industrial Estate business has been able to unfurlough nine members of staff to support the increase in demand.
Chief executive Mark Williams said: “We are aware the public services are stretched and in order to best support our communities whilst councils are overwhelmed with additional domestic waste production, we have been able to respond with additional collections and the provision of skip hire.
“There remain issues with fly-tipping, but it’s encouraging that people are generally using their time constructively, getting things done around the house, and are being responsible with waste disposal.
“We are really proud of our staff who are keeping things moving just now, and playing our part in the response to Covid-19.”
NWH Group, which has a fleet of 2,000 skips, has put in place several new social distancing measures to enable the safe delivery and collection of domestic waste skips that ensure the safety of employees and customers.
