A Dundee games company has been named as one of the world’s top 50 developers.
Industry publication Pocket Gamer recognised Outplay Entertainment as one of the top mobile games developers in the new report.
Based at the Vision Building at Greenmarket, Outplay is the only Scottish firm on the list and one of only four British firms along with London-based Nerial, Outfit7 and King.
Outplay was founded in 2010 by Doug and Richard Hare, specifically to focus on the mobile games market.
The founders said: “We are delighted to have been named as one of the world’s top 50 mobile game developers and we are proud to fly the flag for the Scottish gaming sector.
“It’s always our mission to deliver limitless fun with free-to-play, innovative games that provide immersive, vibrant, and unique experiences for players across the world.
“It is wonderful to see that the hard work of our fantastic teams has been recognised
Employing around 170, its games titles include Alien Creeps, Castle Creeps, Mystery Match and Bubble Genius.
“A fresh rebrand marks a promising year for Outplay Entertainment, as the Dundee company attempts to position itself as uplifting, approachable and authentic,” the Pocket Gamer report said.
“The studio grabbed the title of Scotland’s fastest growing tech company after increasing its revenues by 1,904% between 2013 and the end of 2017.”
Each year the top 50 is based on a combination of factors — the most exciting games, genuine innovation, money made, influence, potential and company growth.
The list is headed by Epic Games, which fought off competition from Chinese games giant Tencent for the number one slot, based on the incredible success of Fortnite, which is valued at over $1 billion.
