A man who assaulted his partner and left her with a fractured eye socket is facing jail.

Martin Cord, 28, of Grampian Gardens, admitted four charges of assaulting Stacey Laing at various locations in Dundee and Aberdeen.

Fiscal depute Laura Bruce told Dundee Sheriff Court that on the first three occasions, at various locations in Dundee, Cord punched and slapped Ms Laing but she did not require medical attention.

On Saturday September 30 last year, they were in Aberdeen and had been drinking for several hours.

Around 1.30am, they were in their room at the Jury’s Inn hotel when witnesses heard what they said sounded like a physical fight.

Ms Bruce said Ms Laing stated Cord took hold of her throat and forced her on to the bed before punching her in the face.

“She is unaware of the number of times she was punched but was aware she was bleeding from a cut somewhere on her face,” the fiscal said.

She was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary A&E where she was found to have a fracture to her left eye socket, a laceration on her left cheek and bruising to both eyes, her face and arm.

She had surgery to repair the damage in October, and was reported as still having problems with her jaw joint in February.

Solicitor Paul Parker Smith said his client understood a custodial sentence would be uppermost in Sheriff Alastair Carmichael’s mind.

Cord admitted he assaulted Ms Laing by seizing her by the throat, pinning her to a bed and repeatedly striking her on the head.

He further admitted punching Ms Laing to the face, punching her to the head and body and slapping her face, at Balerno Place, Balunie Place and at Whitecraig Loan in Dundee on August 6 2016 and February 18 and June 5, both last year.

The sheriff deferred sentence until September 24 for reports and a restriction of liberty order assessment.
