A sheriff has branded a drink-driver “stupid” after he smashed into the garden of a cottage near Dundee while more than four times the legal limit.
Monifieth man Steven Young faces a lengthy driving ban after the incident on Drumsturdy Road early on Thursday.
Young careered through a wall, destroyed a fence and trees and hit other cars before his wrecked car came to rest on its side.
Police who rushed to the scene just after 3am found Young still inside his Mazda 2 car.
Within hours of arrest he appeared handcuffed in the dock in Forfar, where a sheriff said the high reading meant it was likely the alcohol had yet to properly leave his system.
Young, of High Street, Monifieth, admitted a drink-drive reading of 91 microgrammes when he appeared before Sheriff Gregor Murray. The legal limit is 22.
Sheriff Murray told Young: “I am conscious that this took place less than 12 hours ago and, given the high reading, the alcohol has not all left your system.
“So it won’t have sunk in just how stupid you have been.
“The likelihood is a very significant driving ban and many hours of unpaid work.”
The 24-year-old was disqualified in the meantime and the case was deferred until May 7.
The Tele told how a couple had cheated death when Young’s car left the road and sent a fence post spearing through their bedroom window.
The car then flipped over and came to rest in the driveway of a neighbour’s house, damaging two cars.
